Voicing the Soil is an installation. It redraws William Smith’s two hundred year old Geological Map of Great Britain, essential to the extraction of raw materials. In play across different geographies and temporalities, audiences explore their agency in the making of soil in pastoral Herefordshire.
The Remarkabull Times, a local newspaper fictitiously printed in 2119, and Four Soundscapes (click here) unpack the stories of soil, from single cell organisms, spiders and scientists to a local geologist, farmers and global agribusinesses.
The installation combines immersive Climate Walks and debates on regenerative farming practices while exhibition visitors attempt to define soil by expanding The Hereford Word Hoard for Soil.
